Ever notice dark corners or tiny shadows in your astrophotos? Flat frames are designed to fix these issues by mapping uneven illumination and dust shadows on your sensor.
To capture flats, keep your telescope setup exactly the same as when shooting your night sky photos. Use a uniform light source like a flat panel, twilight sky, or even a white T-shirt stretched over the aperture.
Make sure your exposures hit the middle of your camera’s dynamic range—not too bright or dim—to get the best results. Collect 20–50 flats to create a master flat that smooths out brightness and removes pesky artifacts.
